UGT and CCOO estimate the follow-up of the general strike in Lanzarote at more than 65 percent. The unions have indicated that this day of strike is registering a greater participation than during the general strike of September 2010, according to a statement sent around 1:00 p.m.
UGT and CCOO have indicated that the strike is especially "noticeable" in the energy sector, such as in Inalsa or in Unelco-Endesa where they are working "with minimum services". According to the unions, the general strike registers "a wide follow-up" in the public administrations, especially in the town councils of the island where in some consistories, such as in Yaiza and Tías, "the stoppages have been supported by more than 70 percent of the workers".
In the hotel and commerce sector, the strike day is developing "with an uneven follow-up in the tourist and residential areas of the island", according to these unions. Regarding waste collection services, "a 100 percent stoppage of activity is being registered in the municipalities of Yaiza, Teguise, Tinajo and Tías".
At the Guacimeta airport, "some loading and unloading operations of luggage from airplanes have been affected by the stoppages of the personnel that performs these services", according to both unions.
Therefore, from UGT and CCOO they have described "the general strike as a success". "This is demonstrated by the percentage decrease registered in electricity consumption on the island", they pointed out. In addition, they have valued "positively that the day is developing without incidents", despite the fact that many businesses have had to close as the pickets passed by.
