The Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote) and Calero Marinas have presented this Monday "Lanzarote Superyatch Destination", a new tourism product that aims to "promote Lanzarote as a world-renowned destination for superyachts", and in which the Port Authority of Las Palmas and the Marina Rubicón marina also participate. In fact, according to a statement issued by the Cabildo, this project arises to "take advantage of the quality of the three marinas" on the island, Puerto Calero, Marina Lanzarote and Marina Rubicón, and the "added value that the characteristics, products and tourist services offered by the island confer to the stay.
The Tourism Promotion Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Ángel Vázquez (PP), highlighted during the presentation of the project that "through this initiative we intend to attract to the island a tourist segment with high purchasing power, who loves nature and is therefore respectful of the Environment, which fits perfectly with the promotion parameters that we have been carrying out from Turismo Lanzarote".
In this sense, he stressed the importance for the Island Promotion Body to "develop value proposals, in this case jointly with private initiative, aligned with the strategy of promoting spending at the destination"; and predicted that this initiative "will be great news especially to boost Arrecife and the port infrastructures that are developed in the city".
Ángel Vázquez also valued the "excellences" offered by the three marinas on the island, "which not only enjoy internationally recognized mooring and stay services, but also, in the case of Marina Lanzarote, offers dry dock services for the maintenance, review and renovation of superyachts, among the most advanced at the national level".
"Historical opportunity"
For his part, the CEO of Calero Marinas, José Juan Calero, said that "Lanzarote has a historic opportunity to consolidate itself as a leading destination in the global superyacht market" and explained that "the 'Lanzarote Superyacht Destination' project has as its main objective to take advantage of this opportunity and achieve a significant increase in visits from these customers in the medium and long term, which will translate into an increase in tourist spending at the destination, within a sector very committed to sustainability and the Environment".
According to the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, the creation of this product will be accompanied by "firstly a launch strategy that will be followed by other promotion and monitoring strategies, together with a commercial strategy that manages to capitalize on the marketing and promotion effort made". "Without forgetting the expansive promotion, we are very clear that we must invest our energies and resources in carrying out a very selective promotion with the creation of initiatives of these characteristics," added Fernández, who specified that this new product, framed in the 'European Sports Destination' project, "is the paradigm of being a competitive destination".
Average spending at destination
As explained in the presentation, the 'Lanzarote Superyacht Destination' product aims to attract to the island a type of superyacht with an average length of 50 meters, with a home port in Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Southern France or Italy, which either sails in summer in the Mediterranean and in winter in the Caribbean, or hibernates in the Mediterranean and has an adventurous profile. The average weekly expenditure of this type of superyacht at the destination is 19,888. 84 euros.
"The good weather, the geographical location, its unique landscapes in the world, the proximity to the airport of the three ports, the magnificent conditions it offers for outdoor sports, as well as the good gastronomic and infrastructure offer, are some of the strengths that Lanzarote has to attract this segment of superyachts that also sees how the marinas and shipyards, especially those in the Mediterranean, are beginning to become saturated," they point out from the Cabildo.
Held at the Magma Innovation Hub center, the presentation of 'Lanzarote Superyacht Destination' also featured a round table with the participation of the CEO of Marina Rubicón, Rafael Lasso; the president of the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, José Torres; the director of Puertos Canarios, Manuel Ortega; the commercial director of Puertos de Las Palmas, Juan Francisco Martín; the Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Hospitality of the Arrecife City Council, Armando Santana, and the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda.
