The agricultural market of Tinajo will be a reality before the end of the year. During the coming months it will be necessary to finish conditioning the area and provide the place with the necessary services for this square to start operating. Once these tweaks are finished, the market will open its doors.
The infrastructure will be located in the Plaza de Los Dolores in Mancha Blanca. For this, it will have approximately twenty stands. In fact, 21 applications have been submitted, of which 19 have already been accepted. For the moment the market will open on weekends.
Later, if it works well, it would open every day. Visitors can find typical products of the area such as wine, cheese, salted fish or pastries. All of this is made by hand by those who dedicate themselves to these trades. In addition, it is not ruled out that artisans from other municipalities participate to guarantee the variety of products and offer a greater offer.
With future prospects
The financing of this project has been divided between the Government of the Canary Islands, which will contribute some 70,000 euros, and the Tinajo City Council, which will contribute the rest of the budget. The plan has a great vision for the future. This is because one of the objectives of the mayor of the municipality, Jesús Machín, is that a part of the esplanade located next to the hermitage of Los Dolores becomes a parking lot for tourists to leave their cars there and take the bus to Montañas de Fuego.
In this way, they could learn from the history of the Virgin to the characteristics of the Timanfaya Park, passing through the lava flows. "We hope that with the agricultural market the Cabildo will decide to help us in the construction of this parking lot that would also avoid the queues that form today at the entrance of the park," said Jesús Machín.
Open commercial area for Tinajo
To learn more about the project, the General Director of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Arturo Cabrera, moved to the area this morning. The head of this area was satisfied with the project and "we must congratulate the mayor for this market that will allow the exit of agricultural products as well as the arrival of more visits to the area."
During his time in Tinajo, Arturo Cabrera also had the opportunity to learn about the open commercial zone project for Tinajo. In this case, it is an initiative that is 50% co-financed by the Government of the Canary Islands, while the other half is divided between the Cabildo and the interested city council.
In this case, this area would be established in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento as it is the commercial nerve center of the town. The objective of Jesús Machín is to pedestrianize the area as well as condition its gardens, put in appropriate street furniture and place public lighting. However, these improvements will not see the light until next year, since 2006 has been the date established by the General Director of Commerce for the Tinajo City Council to present the project.
In Haría
Today's day also served for Arturo Cabrera to go to the municipality of Haría. There he met with the mayor José Torres Stinga. In this case, the northern area of the Island is also preparing two projects to activate commerce. The first of these is the flea market square where the General Directorate of Commerce will invest money to improve its street furniture and garden areas. In this case, the project will also be completed before the end of the year.
The first mayor of Haría also conveyed to Arturo Cabrera his intention to establish an open commercial area in the place. This project is included, as in the case of Tinajo, in the plan of the regional Executive to encourage the creation of these commercial areas. However, the Haría initiative will not be put into practice until 2006.
