"There is a large area that for sure, yes or yes, will be installed in Playa Honda." This was revealed this Monday by the Councilor for Industrial Zone, Urban Planning, Industry and Commerce of San Bartolomé, Juan Carlos Rocío, who has stated that for the moment he cannot advance more details.
"I think that soon it will be known exactly. At the moment it is a private matter with the owner of the land, but the news will not take long to come out and when they give us authorization, we will say it", said the mayor, who hopes that it will be conformed "in a week or fifteen days".
What Juan Carlos Rocío has confirmed is that three companies, Alcampo, Mercadona and Lidl, have already held meetings with the City Council, showing their interest in settling in the Playa Honda area, and one of them could be the one that takes the lead. In fact, the land for which that company is negotiating already meets all the requirements to be urbanized.
"Completely legal" land
In this regard, the councilor has pointed out that of the twelve action units and the three Suitable Land for Urbanization (SAU) in the commercial, industrial and service area of Playa Honda, three are already in a situation "completely legal and from tomorrow they can start building", specifically in action units 4 and 9 and in SAU 11, located behind Roper.
The company has been interested in one of those plots, so once the agreement with the owners is closed, it could receive a license without problems. However, the process will not be quick, as it does not only depend on the City Council.
From the Consistory they maintain that the municipal license could be received in 15 days, but it will also need authorization from the state air safety agency, because almost the entire area is affected by aeronautical easements, and a specific commercial license from the Government of the Canary Islands, which would be the longest procedure. In total, according to estimates from the Consistory, the procedure could take about a year, until all permits are obtained and works begin.
Other interested brands
Although Juan Carlos Rocío did not want to confirm the name of the food chain that has advanced its installation in Playa Honda, he did advance that it is not the only one that could arrive. "There have been meetings with different commercial brands", confirmed the mayor, who considers that Playa Honda has an excellent location for this type of establishment.
"For me, the situation in Playa Honda is better than that of Arrecife, because it is better connected, but that already depends on the brand that wants to install", he pointed out, clarifying that they are not going to enter into any type of "competition" offering advantages to companies to attract them to their municipality. "We are going to facilitate all the processing, the Technical Office is at your disposal, and we will facilitate all the procedures that you have to do, but in I offer you more or I offer you less, we are not going to enter", he pointed out.
Regarding the rest of the industrial area, in addition to the three units that are already ready for urbanization, the mayor has pointed out that the rest "are being processed". As he explained, "some are missing the urbanization project, others the reparcelling project... but they are not things that take much processing either, because the City Council approves them". Of course, "it is the owners who have to ask the City Council to approve them".
