The majority of Lanzarote residents believe that life is getting worse in Lanzarote. The quality of life in Lanzarote received an average score of 2.3 out of ten among those interviewed in the latest Island Topics Survey by the Cabildo.
Residents' scores on the quality of life on the island have plummeted in recent years from the 6.2 points it received in the 2017 Island Issues Survey.
In the **midst of the pandemic**, in 2020, the score for quality of life on the island was **4.2 points**. In **2023** it dropped to **3.9 points**, while **last year** it fell even further to **3.1** points.
A score as low as that of 2025 (2.3 points) had not been recorded since the worst of the economic crisis in 2011, when unemployment soared and Spain was on the verge of needing a total financial bailout from the European Union, which ultimately was only to clean up the banking system.
In the latest survey, 60% of Lanzarote residents believe that the quality of life in Lanzarote has worsened in the last year, compared to 8% who think it has improved. 30% of those interviewed responded that everything remains the same.
The data show a clear worsening of citizens' opinions even compared to last year, when opinions were already quite negative. In 2024, 50% thought quality of life had worsened, 16% that it had improved, and 36% thought it was the same.
