Arrecife breaks record with 43 cruise ships in April and triggers the arrival of international tourists

The port will receive large luxury ships and will experience days of maximum activity, reinforcing the economic impact of cruise tourism, which already contributes more than 30% of port revenues in Las Palmas

Arrecife will receive this month of April the call of 43 cruise ships, bringing a new record in the arrival of international passengers to the island of Lanzarote. According to information from the Department of Tourism and Commerce, led by the PP spokesperson councilor, Eli Merino, in during the month of April the calls of the luxurious cruise ships Queen Victoria, Sky Princess, Costa Toscana and Britannia, among others, are scheduled.

Additionally, during this month of April, according to the scale forecasts of the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APLP), Sundays April 19 and 26, respectively, will be very intense in the arrival of cruise passengers. For the 19th, the arrival in the city of Arrecife of the luxurious Queen Victoria, Marella Voyager World Voyager and the exclusive boutique ship Le Bougainville is expected.

On Sunday the 26th, the large cruise ships Ventura en route to Cadiz, Sea Cloud Spirit and the Mein Schiff 4, on a trip to Tangier, will arrive. Another of the days with a lot of characteristic activity in Arrecife will be experienced on April 28th with the calls of the MSC Virtuosa, the Exploris One, the Sea Cloud Spirit and the Mein Schiff 7.

 

Arrecife contributes more than 30 percent of the income from cruises in the state ports of Las Palmas

The mayor of Arrecife. Yonathan de León, highlights that this great boom in cruise tourism in Lanzarote contributes to the state ports in the province of Las Palmas benefiting from the income provided, by more than 30 percent, by the ships that make their calls in Arrecife. Yonathan de León is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas. 

The Councillor for Commerce and Tourism, Eli Merino, has highlighted that among the April calls, the port of Arrecife has scheduled the presence of the cruise ship Mein Schiff 7 whose passengers will stay overnight in this conejera capital during its calls on April 2 and 3, and April 16 and 17, contributing to a greater generation of income.

 

Commercial opening on Sundays

As a result of an initiative launched by the Arrecife City Council during in 2025, many of the businesses in Arrecife's Open Commercial Zone will open on Sundays coinciding with cruise ship calls, as planned during this month of April. The small retail and hospitality sector in Arrecife has in this tourist segment strengthened revenues due to the constant presence of cruise ships in the autumn and winter season, where the Canary Islands is a leading destination in the tourism industry in the northern hemisphere, supported by good weather.
