Presentation of the Digital Agenda of the Canary Islands

The Digital Agenda of the Canary Islands 2025 (ADCAN) is the first agenda for the digitalization of the archipelago and has been prepared jointly with all agents related to the regional digital transformation of both the public and private sectors.

This roadmap has "brought together, synthesized and organized" all possible ways to speed up the digitalization of the Canary Islands. 445 projects or lines of action already initiated or ready to be implemented within the timeframe set by the agenda have already been identified. The sum of all these projects reaches an investment of between 700 and 800 million euros. The ADCAN205 already has established indicators that will allow monitoring its compliance.

"It is an open collaborative model that identifies projects, prioritizes, coordinates and measures their progress," said the president, Ángel Víctor Torres during the presentation, who also recalled that the Canary Islands will host the OECD Digital Economy Conference in December. In this regard, he insisted that "it will be the first time that this meeting of Ministers of Digital Economy from around the world will be held in Europe, and the first time that the Canary Islands will host an event of this magnitude. The Canary Islands are at the center of the debate on the digital economy worldwide," he said.

Torres stressed that at a time when the Canary Islands are demonstrating their strengths in economic recovery and employment, with 1,600 fewer unemployed in September and, for the first time in 14 years, below 190,000 unemployed, "we must also show the world our advantages in connectivity, talent and capacity for digitalization in all areas."

Projects already underway

Among the projects already operational included in the ADCAN2025 are the Essential Services Building, which consists of the commissioning of two twin buildings for the island of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, with an investment of 33.7 million euros each and operated by around 500 people in each building.

The Digital Innovation Hub is another of the projects presented, already launched and with which the Aciisi has brought together all the agents, to achieve a solid proposal, which obtained the European seal of excellence and has served to make the Canary Islands in the main EU network for the promotion of innovation. "For the first time in our history, we are carrying out an action of this level hand in hand with companies and research centers, with the aim of modernizing our industry and our administrations, and being a one-stop shop for companies that require these advanced solutions," said the Minister of Economy, Elena Máñez.

The Minister also explained the strategic line of this agenda, which begins with the roadmap, Canary Islands Digital Entrepreneurial Territory, and which works on 3 levers; competitiveness, connectivity and training. Precisely in connectivity, the Canary Islands is the third region of Spain, which in turn is the seventh country in the world, in broadband connection with more than 90% of people connected.
