The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has shown its "surprise" at the maintenance of alert level 4 announced this Thursday by the Government of the Canary Islands. "The improvement of the data foresaw a respite that has not arrived", he questions in a statement, in which he points out that the current situation is already "unsustainable".
"Lanzarote and La Graciosa have shown good behavior in these weeks and proof of this is the evolution of their data, so this new week of waiting not only detracts from the effort, but also represents a risk to the mental, social and economic health of people", he warns.
In this regard, he recalls that Lanzarote is facing its sixth week in phase 4, with a curfew from ten o'clock at night, the closure of establishments at six in the afternoon and the closure of indoor dining rooms in bars and restaurants.
"For five weeks we have maintained very high restrictions, greater than those of any other island, without any type of resistance being raised. We are aware of the need to stop the serious escalation of the virus after Christmas to return to a more controlled situation. However, once the risks of the Carnival festivities have been overcome, and noting the very positive evolution in the incidence of the virus in the islands during the last weeks, we are not able to understand the reason why this maximum level of restrictions is still being maintained", they point out.
"We believe that the necessary progress has been made to be able to lower to level 3 of danger, which hardly implies changes in the application regulations, but which allow the opening of establishments beyond 6 pm and an encouragement towards containment and normality", underlines the Chamber.
