The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved the call for the granting of subsidies for the feeding of breeding animals in the sheep and goat sector, for the year 2022, for a value of 500,000 euros.
"The commitment of the island's Government group to the livestock sector is firm, especially given the difficulties it is going through as a result of the post-Covid situation and the war in Ukraine, which have highlighted the great sensitivity of the island's livestock farms due to the high dependence on the import of supplies," says the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.
In this way, and through the institution's own funds, "this Cabildo satisfies the demand of livestock farmers who want to renew their sheep-goat livestock, supporting and facilitating this sector to maintain the island's livestock census," adds Corujo.
As explained by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Andrés Stinga, this line of subsidies aims to support livestock farmers who raise animals for replacement, covering the feeding costs they have in a stage in which they are not productive. In addition, it also aims to "incentivize the growth of sheep-goat livestock on the island level and thereby guarantee local livestock production, as well as avoid the loss of business fabric in the primary sector."
According to the bases, the subsidies are aimed at livestock farms on the island registered in the Register of Livestock Farms (REGA), which have a sheep-goat census equal to or greater than five or more livestock units. The amount of the subsidy will be a maximum of 150 euros per head of female sheep or goat livestock that undergoes the breeding process.
Applications to benefit from these aids may be submitted to the General Registry of the Island Agricultural Service or the Cabildo of Lanzarote for a period of 30 days, once the call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas (BOP).
