Some hotels in Lanzarote have already announced that they will reopen in July, although it will be "a minority", according to the vice president of Asolan and the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, Paco Martínez. "I don't think they will reach 10%," he pointed out.
The island's employers' forecast just over two weeks ago was that none of the large hotels would open in the near future, although they have finally confirmed that at least three will: the Hotel Riu Lanzarote Paraíso, the H10 Rubicón Palace and the Sands Beach.
In the case of RIU, as explained by the vice president of Asolan, this hotel chain has three hotels and what it has done "is to unify the reservations in a single hotel", which will open its doors on July 1. "And H10 has done the same, which in this case has three hotels in Playa Blanca and one in Costa Teguise", added the vice president of Asolan, who pointed out that the H10 Rubicón Palace will also open "at the beginning of the month".
As for the Hotel Sands Beach Resort, it is scheduled to open on July 5. "It is going to open with 30% occupancy, it is going to try to see how it goes", Martínez specified.
"Small establishments are going to open more because they have less risk and the situation is more salvageable for them", added the vice president of Asolan, although in this case he did not specify which hotels will reopen. "The ones that were already open during the state of alarm for cases of need are already in operation, which are five or six", he indicated.
"People are also finding it difficult to get flights"
Regarding reservations for the summer months, the vice president of Asolan pointed out that they are still around 30%. "But reservations seem like chewing gum, because you look at the planning today and you have 35% which is good, not bad, but you look the next day and you have received two more reservations and 30 cancellations in parallel"
"People are also finding it difficult to get flights", added Francisco Martínez. "Because there are companies that still do not allow reservations until they have it clearer or that have put a plane and it is already full. It is not easy to get flights yet. All the airlines have the fantastic desire to fly and if they see a demand they will start increasing flights on the fly, just like the hotels, which all have the vocation to open, but it must be done with a certain caution", he specified.
Thus, he pointed out that the rest of the large hotels are "waiting". "As soon as they reach 45 or 50 percent occupancy they will open, but that is almost 40,000 beds throughout Lanzarote and we are not going to have 40,000 tourists now", he concluded.
