The total market for passenger cars and SUVs has barely grown last June compared to the same period last year, only 6%. Car rental companies boost the car market in the islands, growing 52% compared to last year. Meanwhile, private purchases fall to 24% with 1,720 units registered and sales by the business channel also fall 7.4% with 1,151 units registered.

For the president of the Canary Islands dealership association: “Registrations in the Rent a car company channel, are 'driving' the car market in the Canary Islands, but the drop in sales among individuals is worrying. It is evident that Canarian families are losing credit capacity and cannot access the purchase of a new vehicle. For this reason, we continue to insist on the need to launch an incentive plan by the Government of the Canary Islands.”

For Sánchez, the market is not recovering, mainly due to the economic situation: “Canarians are losing purchasing power. We are receiving more tourists and we are poorer than ever. This makes consuming, not only cars but any product, a real complication.”

Regarding the rest of the markets, the sale of commercial vehicles grows 43% with 927 units. This has been a very good month for this segment because there are no longer stock problems and the production of this type of vehicle has normalized.

Regarding the market for buses and industrial vehicles, registrations grow 27% with 112 units registered.

Two-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles and motorcycles, experience a 17% drop in sales with 1,033 registrations. And so far this year, the market accumulates a 11% drop compared to 2023.
