A total of 2,017 self-employed individuals who registered from 2023 onwards have availed themselves of the bonus from the Government of the Canary Islands for their Social Security contributions, known as the zero quota, as reported in Parliament by the Vice President and Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce, and Self-Employment, Manuel Domínguez.

The initial calculations of the Government of the Canary Islands when launching this measure in early May were that throughout 2024, around 3,500 self-employed individuals could benefit from this subsidy, which are those who registered in 2023 with a flat rate.

Domínguez, who responded in a parliamentary committee to a question on this matter from Vox deputy Nicasio Galván, pointed out that, of the 2,017 self-employed individuals who have requested the refund of their quota, 1,020 correspond to the province of Las Palmas and 997 to that of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

For the Minister, the good reception that this measure has had demonstrates that it is positive for supporting the self-employed and entrepreneurs, and he informed that his department is continuing with its outreach campaign so that the maximum number of potential beneficiaries sign up for the zero quota.

Nicasio Galván requested that the zero quota be extended generally to all self-employed individuals who do not reach the minimum wage, a matter that the Minister considered positive and on which he said is already incorporated in the bases of the call.

The zero quota is contemplated for self-employed beneficiaries of the flat rate who registered from 2023 onwards, to whom a full year of their Social Security contributions is returned in the form of a subsidy.

Self-employed individuals must apply for the subsidy once they have completed a full year of contribution.

The most important requirements to qualify for this aid are that the self-employed individual is located in the Canary Islands and is a beneficiary of the flat rate, which is about 80 euros per month.

The submission of applications is done through the computer application for managing the call, located in the electronic headquarters of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
