A total of 12,645 people received the Canary Islands Citizen's Income in August, for which the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families has allocated an economic item that amounted to a total of 7,720,190 euros.
The entry into force of the Canary Islands Citizen's Income in December 2022, meant a change of model with respect to the Canary Islands Insertion Benefit (PCI), equating the Canary Islands, to the rest of the autonomous communities in having a guaranteed income. In addition to improving the amounts received by the beneficiaries with respect to the PCI, it establishes the same base amount as the Minimum Basic Income (IMV).
In the last payroll of the PCI, corresponding to the month of March 2023, the Government allocated the amount of 6,077,551 euros to the payment of this benefit and reached 12,538 recipients. After the entry into force of the Canary Islands Citizen's Income in April 2023, the number of beneficiaries has increased to 12,645 in August 2023, with an item of almost 8 million euros.
In the application of this law, the right to citizen's income is regulated, as an economic benefit granted to the cohabitation unit, nominative and non-transferable; which ensures the coverage of the basic needs of the cohabitation unit that lacks sufficient economic resources to meet these needs.
In addition, it establishes the right to social inclusion and/or labor insertion programs and services, in order to improve the living conditions of the recipients who are in a situation of exclusion or social vulnerability.
