Lanzarote leads the recovery figures for German tourism in all of the Canary Islands. The Archipelago has become for the sixth consecutive month the Autonomous Community where foreign tourism has grown the most, with 832,976 foreign visitors. Within these good figures, Lanzarote stands out as the island that has obtained the best data.
Thus, Lanzarote registered a total of 25,817 German tourists this past month of July, with a growth of 21.75 percent compared to the previous year. For its part, Gran Canaria did so with an increase of 21.08 percent, Tenerife of 21.41 percent and Fuerteventura of 5.85 percent.
"It is the Canary Island that experiences a greater recovery of German tourists in percentages, maintaining the good tone that began during 2010, with consecutive growths, also the result of promotional agreements and the investment effort of the Ministry of Tourism, through the Tourism Board and the Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL), to maintain and increase these figures in certain strategic markets for the island", indicated the Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez.
According to her opinion, promotional agreements such as those reached with Air Berlin, TUI, the Rewe group, FTI or Schauinsland Reisen have reinforced, during 2010 and 2011, the flights and promotional campaigns in this issuing destination.
British and Irish tourism
Similarly, Ástrid Pérez has also highlighted the Irish and British markets, which maintained their upward trend in July, with increases of 7.76 percent for the former, compared to 2010, reaching a figure close to 21,000 Irish tourists. The behavior of the United Kingdom has also been very positive, with 83,056 British tourists and an increase of 2.39 percent.
The councilor has also highlighted the good performance of some flights scheduled in this past month of July, from Poland and Italy, and the increase in passengers from Switzerland and the Netherlands. However, she insisted on the need to "bet on and increase promotional agreements and air connections with these new markets, such as Poland, as well as recover French and Italian tourism, where Lanzarote still has little presence."
