Unemployment fell again last December for the eighth consecutive month and Lanzarote closed the year with 11,131 unemployed, compared to 18,297 at the end of 2020. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 39.2%, with 7,166 fewer people unemployed than a year ago.
Compared to last November, the island has 206 fewer unemployed, with a decrease of 1.8%, according to data from the Canarian Employment Observatory, collected by the Cabildo Data Center.
The figure is thus at levels prior to the pandemic, which triggered unemployment, leaving the highest peak in April 2021, with 19,903 unemployed.
By municipalities, Arrecife concentrates 5,743 unemployed, followed by San Bartolomé with 1,233. Next are Tías with 1,212, Teguise with 1,195, Yaiza with 950, Tinajo with 419 and Haría with 379.
Of the total number of unemployed on the island, 6,331 are women and 4,800 are men.
