Lanzarote Airport accumulates six consecutive months with more arrivals than in 2019

César Manrique Airport once again exceeded pre-pandemic figures in September, with 3.4% more arrivals than in the same month three years ago, while the average for Canary Islands airports is still 0.5% below 2019.

For the sixth consecutive month, César Manrique Airport has exceeded pre-pandemic arrivals. In September, a total of 630,986 people landed in Lanzarote, which means that passenger traffic has grown by 3.4% compared to September 2019.

Of all the Canary Islands airports, only Fuerteventura Airport, where 488,745 people arrived, has experienced greater growth than César Manrique Airport in September. This is 5.6% more in the neighboring island, compared to the month of September prior to the health crisis.

The average for all Canary Islands airports, however, has not yet reached pre-pandemic figures, although it is getting closer and closer. Specifically, last September it reached 99.5% of the passenger traffic that existed in the same month of 2019.

 

Tenerife North, the slowest to recover

In total, 3,540,672 travelers passed through the archipelago's airports in September. Of the total number of passengers on commercial flights (3,496,938), 1,589,895 correspond to national traffic and 1,907,043 to international traffic.

Other airports that have exceeded the figures for September 2019 are Tenerife South, where 843,176 passengers landed (1.7%) and El Hierro, with 24,599 (+3%);

The airports in the archipelago that are having the most difficulties in recovering the figures prior to the pandemic were those of Gran Canaria, with 957,416 (-3%), Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 470,816 (-9%); La Palma, with 116,205 (-2.2%); and La Gomera, with 8,729 passengers (-4%).

Regarding freight traffic, 2,449 tons were transported, a figure that represents a recovery of 77.6% compared to the same month of 2019.
