The Canarian supermarket and hypermarket chain HiperDino celebrates its 40th anniversary this Tuesday immersed in an expansion plan with which it plans to open 30 new stores in 2026, which are added to the 28 openings and 9 renovations of 2025, in which it has invested 50 million euros.
The brand assures in a statement that it is thinking about "the future, in the medium and long term", with "a powerful and solid expansion plan that will consolidate it as "one of the most competitive in the food sector in the archipelago."
Within this expansion plan, the business group highlights that it "continues to lead the creation of employment in the archipelago, with 9,963 employees as of October this year", as "the first company in generating direct jobs in the islands and one of the most powerful in creating induced and indirect employment", in sectors such as logistics, industrial and energy.
In 2024, HiperDino generated 37,443 indirect jobs that represented an economic contribution of 1,271 million euros, with a multiplier effect, since "for each job generated directly by HiperDino, 3.67 full-time jobs have been created in the rest of the Canarian economy", the note highlights.
Another of the outstanding factors within the HiperDino value chain is its commitment to local products, in which it invests around 676 million euros per year in local production, highlighting that 64% of purchases from the primary sector are made from local suppliers.
The origins of HiperDino go back to the opening in 1972 of the first supermarket under the name "Hermanos Domínguez", by José Abraham and Andrés Domínguez, with purely Canarian capital.
From this first supermarket, 12 years later, in 1985, the first store with the name HiperDino was born in the Miller Bajo neighborhood of the capital of Gran Canaria, a date since which nearly 10,000 direct jobs have been created and with 289 stores in the regional territory and in the Balearic Islands, the company highlights.
"What we started as a family project has grown to become the benchmark supermarket chain for the islanders" and for José Abraham and Andrés Domínguez "that not only fills them with pride and gratitude, but also motivates them to continue betting on what is ours."
HiperDino contributes 2.72% to the Canarian Gross Domestic Product, according to 2024 data, being the first Canarian company in job creation and the third in terms of turnover.
This makes it one of the main food distribution chains nationwide, occupying the eleventh position in terms of turnover, the statement emphasizes.
HiperDino currently has 289 stores in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands and operates under the HiperDino, SuperDino and HiperDino Express brands, four logistics centers and a dark store, dedicated exclusively to the preparation of online orders. As a result of its alliance with Bp, it has 38 DinoShop establishments under the franchise system.
