In line with one of Cicar's main objectives, the leading car rental company in the Canary Islands continues to innovate. A year ago, the Opel Vivaro adapted vehicles were incorporated into the fleet for the transfer of people with reduced mobility, now they want to go further. For this reason, they are incorporating a fleet of rental vehicles adapted for driving for people with reduced mobility.

For the launch of this new project, Cicar has relied on the new Opel Astra in its 1.6 version, with automatic gearbox. A brand distributed by Orvecame, another company of the Cabrera Medina Group.

The devices installed by Adaptaciones Canarias, a company of the Electro Zafiro Group, the only one in the archipelago and specialist in the adaptation of this type of vehicle, cover around 80 percent of disabilities, so that people with reduced mobility can rent a vehicle adapted to their needs on any island.

The equipment consists of a knob on the steering wheel, accelerator inverter, manual brake lever and approved electronic ring accelerator, to drive with any of the possible adaptations. The rental price is the same as a vehicle without adaptation of the same group.

Mamerto Cabrera, CEO of Cicar, believes that "this initiative is a further step forward to improve service to our customers". "We want to provide service without barriers on all the islands and for this we have created a perfectly adapted fleet that covers 80 percent of physical disabilities".

"The history of the company and the commitment to our customers and to the Canary Islands obliges us to improve every day by offering more services and taking our slogan to the highest level. We intend to be faithful to that concern that we have transmitted for more than 40 years and, therefore, we want to bring our services to the largest possible number of customers", added Cabrera.

Agreement with Sixt

On the other hand, Sixt and Cicar became collaborators in the Canary Islands and more than 100 countries in Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, Oceania and South America since August 1.

Cicar (Canary Island Car) was founded in 1967 with a fleet of only 5 cars, but currently offers a fleet of more than 7,900 vehicles and employs, through the Lanzarote-based Cabrera Medina group, more than 950 people. Now, through Cicar, Sixt now offers its customers excellent coverage anywhere in the Canary Islands.

Sixt rent a car S.L.U. has been present in our country since 2005 directly and has not stopped growing since then. Sixt employs more than 150 people in Spain, 30 of whom are in charge of the central services of the German subsidiary in Palma de Mallorca. A fleet of 8,000 new vehicles are distributed among the 18 establishments that Sixt has spread throughout airports, AVE stations and in the center of some Spanish cities.

SIXT rent a car S.L.U. is a subsidiary of the German company SIXT AG, which was founded in Munich in 1912 by Martin Sixt. It is present in more than 100 countries and generates a turnover of 1,600 million euros per year, employing around 3,000 people worldwide.

Estanislao Mata Pérez, general manager of SIXT rent a car Spain, said that "with this agreement we have an excellent collaborator in the Canary Islands". And, now, the customers of this company will be able to make their reservations for any of the islands. Thus, the aim is to "give greater coverage" to customers, "in another corner of the Spanish territory", said Mara. In addition, Cicar's customers, he added, "will have Sixt's services in more than 100 countries around the world".
