The Federation of Services to the Citizenry of the Canary Islands Trade Union Confederation (FSC-CCOO) has demanded this Monday that the Canary Islands Government put an end to the "accumulation of irregularities that have been occurring" in the Canary Islands Ports entity, which includes the management of the Lanzarote ports of Órzola, Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Caleta de Sebo in La Graciosa.

In a statement, the union asks the Government of the Canary Islands to place a manager at the head of Canary Islands Ports who is capable of facing the important tasks entrusted to it, including the establishment of labor relations adjusted to the law.

The union indicates that the current director of Canary Islands Ports, Manuel Ortega, has been "incapable" of managing the entity's personnel problems, "allowing the lack of personnel, that there are no officers (port police) or that these positions of authority agents are filled with private security personnel, as happens" in Corralejo, Playa Blanca, Órzola, Puerto de La Cruz, Playa de Santiago, Playa de San Juan and Vueltas.

CCOO recalls that the staff of Canary Islands Ports filed a collective dispute a few months ago with the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands for breach of agreement regarding their remuneration for updating supplements.

The staff of Canary Islands ports are working "flat out" and without the "appropriate means"

It points out that this staff works "flat out" with numerous additional hours to be able to fulfill the work, which is provided in "terrible conditions, and without the appropriate means".

The union also points out that this situation is a product of the lack of coverage of the vacant positions that are included in the list of job positions.

Comisiones Obreras denounces that the operation of Canary Islands Ports consists of the repeated non-compliance with the rules that regulate labor relations, "going so far as to deny the delivery of documentation to the unions, thus violating a basic fundamental right of union representation".

It also points out that on one occasion this matter was taken to the courts, which ruled on the obligation of the director of Canary Islands Ports to provide this documentation.

The union also says that in the coming days new labor claims will be filed for the multiple errors observed in the bases of the call for applications for the positions to be stabilized and that have not yet been corrected.

It predicts that this will cause a new process of labor instability, "since the process lacks the minimum legal security that guarantees stability to all personnel, despite the fact that the union proposed the formulas that would allow a process adjusted to legality and that would cover the expectations of the staff".
