The director of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Francisco Javier Trujillo, has ordered the temporary closure of the Port of Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario due to the imminent arrival of the high-impact storm Claudia, which is expected to reach the island starting early Thursday morning.
The Port Authority of Las Palmas has proceeded to the temporary closure of the Port of Arrecife from 00:00 hours early morning until 14:00 hours on Thursday, November 13.
Meanwhile, in the case of the Port of Puerto del Rosario, in the capital of Fuerteventura, the closure will occur between 03:00 and 18:00 hours.
The suspension of activity at the Port of Arrecife is added to the decisions made by the seven Municipalities of Lanzarote, which have suspended outdoor activities, and by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which has announced the closure of different island spaces.
An orange alert and three yellow ones for this Thursday
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) increased to orange the warning for rainfall for Thursday in Lanzarote, La Graciosa, and the rest of the islands in the archipelago. Specifically, rainfall of up to 30 millimeters per square meter is expected in one hour, along with stormy showers that could eventually affect the capital, Arrecife, which experienced flooding at the beginning of the year. This rainfall may occur with a probability between 10 and 40%.
The passage of Storm Claudia through the Canary Islands will bring rain, storms, strong winds, and rough seas to the archipelago. Furthermore, it has forced the regional government to establish a state of alert for the risk of floods, precipitation, and wind, as well as a pre-alert for storms and rough seas.
