The Directorate General of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has declared a state of alert for rain and wind starting Thursday at 06:00 in the morning due to the passage of the high-impact storm Claudia through Lanzarote.
The regional Executive makes this decision based on the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency, which has activated up to four alerts in Lanzarote for the risk of rainfall and storms, maximum wind gusts, and significant coastal phenomena.
From Aemet, the warning for rain and storms will be active between 09:00 and 15:00 on Thursday, with a probability of 40-70%, where accumulated rainfall of 15 millimeters per hour is expected from isolated storms with thundery showers that could affect Arrecife. Meanwhile, the wind and rough seas warning will be active between 00:00 on Thursday and 18:00 in the afternoon.
The Aemet does not rule out the possibility of "occasionally strong" rain episodes on the eastern islands throughout Thursday, where moderate intensity precipitation is generally expected to affect the islands.
