The island business Aloe Plus Lanzarote, dedicated to the production and distribution of pure aloe vera products, has today received the SME of the Year 2023 Award from the province of Las Palmas.
The award has been granted by Banco Santander and the Chambers of Commerce of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and the Chamber of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, in collaboration with the Chamber of Spain and the newspaper La Provincia.
Aloe Plus Lanzarote is a company whose staff is made up of more than 95% by women, which has 16 physical points of sale and a significant volume of online sales to different parts of Europe and the world.
In just over ten years, the Lanzarote company has opened five museums or interpretation centers where the process of obtaining and treating aloe is explained. It stands out for its constant innovation, for the training of its staff, but also for its commitment to internationalization and its principles of sustainability.
Managing director Raquel Caraballo was in charge of collecting the award, in an event that was held at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and which was attended by its president José Valle.
Also attending were the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, Luis Padrón; the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura, Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal; the territorial director of Banco Santander in the Canary Islands, Beatriz Martínez Ruiz; and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla.
In addition, four runners-up have been awarded in the categories of Internationalization; Innovation and Digitalization; Training and Employment; and Sustainable Company.
National SME Award of the Year 2023
Aloe Plus Lanzarote will compete for the National SME Award of the Year 2023, which will be chosen from the winners of each province. The name will be announced in the first quarter of 2024, in a major event to be held in Madrid.
In this new edition, the seventh of this Award, a total of 1,629 companies throughout Spain have participated to compete for this award.
Banco Santander and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain created the SME Award of the Year in 2017 to recognize the performance and work of small and medium-sized companies as creators of employment and wealth.
In addition, it aims to give visibility to the daily efforts of entrepreneurs who contribute with their efforts to the economic development of the territory. The award is aimed at small and medium-sized companies with fewer than 250 employees and with a turnover of less than 50 million euros.
Since 2017, the year of its launch, 9,069 SMEs have already participated in this competition.
