The Designation of Origin 'Wines of Lanzarote' is gaining weight in its sector, largely due to the excellent work carried out by its already 21 affiliated wineries. And it is that in the last two years, seven new ones have been added, spread across different points of the Island.
The wineries Femés (Femés), Miguel Morales Morín (Tinajo), La Mareta (Guatiza), Finca Fajardo (La Vegueta), Valle de Malpaso (Haría), Puro Rofe (Tías) and El Morro (Tinajo) are now part of the D.O. These have joined the already established ones, which in recent years have put the name of Lanzarote in the top positions of the major wine competitions both nationally and internationally.
Although the D.O. is best known for the white wines made with the native grape variety, Volcanic Malvasia, the island's wineries have been adapting to the novelties of the sector and the taste of consumers. In this sense, in recent years the sweets produced on the island are being recognized among experts. Likewise, rosés, reds and sparkling wines are being more demanded among a public with increasing interest in wine with designation of origin.
Therefore, we can say that Lanzarote is an island marked by the cultivation of the vine and, although La Geria is the most iconic scenario of this sector, visitors can admire the work of winegrowers and winemakers from north to south. A unique crop and wines in the world that have marked the history of the Island, its traditions and the heroic character of its people.
