The crossover segment continues to grow in our country, in Europe and throughout the world. However, it has become the basic pillar of growth in the Spanish market. In Spain, crossovers already account for 41% of the total market. In the world market, this percentage is already 36%.

Nissan has been leading this segment in Spain for more than a decade since the Nissan Qashqai was launched on the market. In the last twelve years, Nissan has registered more than 380,000 crossovers in the Spanish market.

Two models, leaders in their segment, Qashqai and X-Trail underpin Nissan's leadership in the Spanish market. Both Nissan X-Trail, which we learned a couple of weeks ago is not only a leader in its category but will also reach its highest figure in history in the Spanish market this year, and Nissan Qashqai, which also leads its segment widely and the general ranking of the best-selling crossovers in Spain, are the two pillars on which Nissan's leadership in crossovers is based.

However, they are not the only ones, the Nissan Juke, with almost 80,000 units sold in Spain in the last nine years, is a net contributor to Nissan's sustained leadership in Spain.

First steps autonomous driving in Qashqai

Nissan has positioned itself as the first brand to make available to society the first steps of autonomous driving, making it possible for these technological advances to be available to all audiences, regardless of their age or economic conditions.

One of its most emblematic models, Nissan Qashqai, the best-selling crossover in Spain, already incorporates this technology. The ProPILOT system reinforces driver control by assisting in steering, acceleration and braking tasks. The system works in a single lane of the highway and is optimized to operate at any speed. This new technology is in addition to the Nissan Intelligent Protection Shield, which already equipped the Nissan Qashqai and which, among other aids, included: involuntary lane change warning, blind spot control, moving object detection and emergency braking with pedestrian recognition.

The first steps of autonomous mobility have an important role to play in safety, as these devices make human errors, which are present in more than 90% of accidents, smaller, thus avoiding accidents.

Today, systems that are closely connected with the development of these first steps of autonomous driving are very effective in improving road safety. For example, the front anti-collision system could reduce accidents by 27%, the involuntary lane alert could reduce accidents by 25% and blind spot control would lead to a potential reduction of 17% in traffic accidents.

More efficient engines in Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is now on sale with the new 1.3-liter gasoline engine. It is the latest installment in the success story of the Qashqai, the best-selling crossover in Europe and Spain, which improves the appeal of this model for drivers and makes it more of a leader in its segment. This new highly efficient engine, which has two power options with 140 hp and 160 hp, offers lower fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions. Its development is based on the strength and resources of the RenaultNissanMitsubishi Alliance and will be used for the first time in the Nissan Qashqai. This new engine is available together with a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (Double Clutch Transmission DCT). It is the first time that such a system has been included in a high-volume Nissan model.

There are three versions of the new 1.3-liter engine: a six-speed manual version with 140 hp, a six-speed manual version with 160 hp and a version with a seven-speed DCT with 160 hp.

4x4 heritage on trail

Nissan has rescued brand tradition as a leader in off-road vehicles with the new X-Trail 4x4 FAN. The car is prepared to live the most extreme adventures as a family thanks to its 7 seats. The new X-Trail 4x4 FAN enhances the already excellent 4x4 capabilities of Nissan's family crossover by incorporating body and underbody protectors, BF Goodrich All terrain T/A tires mounted on 17" rims, led fog lights and interior protectors of the passenger compartment such as rubber mats, among others, to turn the X-Trail into an extreme 4x4 capable of facing the most adverse terrains.

These original Nissan equipment, available for all versions of the X-Trail range, perfectly complement the ALL MODE 4X4-i transmission system developed by Nissan to offer safe driving and guarantee the vehicle's progress on any terrain. This electronically controlled four-wheel drive system works automatically and, thanks to it, the electronics are responsible for deciding at all times the optimum level of power that at each moment must be transmitted to each of the wheels independently, anticipating adverse circumstances and adapting to them instantly.
