Hospiten Group consolidates the generational change and appoints Juan José Hernández Rubio as Executive President, who until now had been CEO. Likewise, Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, who until now has been General Director, becomes the new Vice President and CEO.
In this way, Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella Suárez, who turned 85 last December, has made the decision to give way to generational change, after 50 years at the head of the company, and will remain as Honorary President.
Both Juan José Hernández Rubio and Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais have been performing executive tasks within the Group for more than 20 years and 15 years respectively, so this step constitutes the natural succession in the group. The two executives assume this new responsibility with the aim of continuing with the expansion and growth process of the company that they have both been leading in all these years, as well as continuing with the transformation and modernization process planned in the strategic plan.
Juan José Hernández Rubio, new Executive President, holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and an MBA from IESE Business School (Barcelona). He developed his professional career in Grupo Barceló and Banco Banif (Banco Santander) and joined Hospiten in 1999 as Chief Financial Officer; in 2000 he was appointed General Manager and in 2011 he assumed the responsibility as CEO of Hospiten.
Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, new Vice President and CEO, holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from ICADE (Madrid) and an MBA from Harvard Business School (Boston). He developed his professional career in London and Madrid in investment banking at Citigroup and in the private equity firm 3i. He joined Hospiten in 2008 as General Manager in the Dominican Republic; later, in Spain, as Director of Operations for the Canary Islands, and in 2011 he was appointed General Manager of Hospiten.
Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella Suárez announces this decision after five decades at the head of the company he founded in 1969 together with his father, also a doctor, Celestino Cobiella Zaera, his brothers and other renowned doctors on the island, with the opening of the group's first hospital, Hospiten Bellevue.
“It is time to continue with the transformation and modernization process planned in the company's strategic plan, maintaining the focus and priority on people and on a healthcare service of the highest quality and excellence,” said the doctor and businessman.
“The legacy that my father, my brothers and I built will continue to grow and improve, as it has done these years through the vision, skill and commitment of Juan José Hernández Rubio and Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, with the support of the Board of Directors and the third generation of the Cobiella family,” he added.
Dr. Cobiella Suárez's decision to leave the presidency of the Hospiten Group is part of the natural succession process, carried out in recent years within the Board of Directors, to give way to the new generations of the Cobiella family.
In 2020, Francisco Cobiella Suárez ceded his position on the Board of Directors to his son Javier, a renowned medical specialist in cardiac surgery; while in 2021, Carlos Cobiella Suárez did the same in his son Carlos, an economist by profession and with extensive experience in the financial sector.
With twenty private medical-hospital centers in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Panama, in addition to just over one hundred outpatient medical centers, the Hospiten Group is an international healthcare network recognized for its quality of care, vocation for continuous improvement and the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies and infrastructures. It has a staff of more than 5,000 professionals who annually attend to more than two million patients from all over the world.
Within its expansion strategy, the group acquired MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid, a subsidiary of the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, in 2010.
