Canary Islands Car, CICAR, faces the year 2019 with its sights set on Spanish tourism to consolidate its leadership in the car rental segment in the Canary Islands. This is the main commitment of the rent a car company at the International Tourism Fair of Madrid, FITUR, which will last until this Sunday.
The last three years have been good for the car rental segment in Spain, with growth rates above 5%. Sources in the sector expect vehicle rentals to grow by around 4% in 2019. In the short and medium term, the evolution is benefited by the favorable forecasts of national tourism, fundamentally, without neglecting the strength shown by foreign tourism despite the fact that it presents growth percentages lower than those shown in the last two years.
The tourist situation in the country also benefits the Canary Islands. Lanzarote, the island of origin of the Cabrera Medina business group, to which CICAR belongs, closed 2018 with more than three million visitors, while the Canary Islands as a whole registered some 15.5 million tourists. The majority are increasingly opting for the comfort and freedom of touring the Islands in a rental car compared to other mobility options.
Faithful to its annual meeting with the company at the Fair, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands visited the CICAR stand to discuss points of view regarding the new year that is presented to Canary companies in the field of tourism. Mamerto Cabrera, CEO of CICAR, spoke with Fernando Clavijo, who was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands Executive, Isaac Castellano.
Considered one of the three most important fairs in the world, FITUR kicks off the international calendar of tourism exhibitions. For this reason, this fair stands as a thermometer of the situation that one of the largest industries on the planet is going through.
About CICAR
CICAR is a car rental company without a driver belonging to the Cabrera Medina Group. This business group, with a family structure, offers services in all the Canary Islands, and is present in all airports, ports, tourist areas and strategic points of the Canary Islands. Its logo is a creation of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique. It has more than 12,000 rental cars, more than 80 points of sale for both rent a car and vehicle sales, and directly employs almost 1,500 people.
Its car rental division is the most important in the entire Canary Islands, and it is also the only Lanzarote firm with a presence on all seven islands. These circumstances, together with the high quality of its service, have made it worthy of numerous awards, among which the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands stands out, obtained by the Cabrera Medina Group in 2014. This decoration is awarded by the autonomous government in recognition of individuals or legal entities that carry out their daily work or their existence for the benefit of Canarian society.
