The Cabrera Medina Group has remembered the founder of the business group, Don Mamerto Cabrera Medina, upon Cicar being awarded the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands 2014. The decoration was presented by the president of the autonomous government in the commemoration ceremony of Canary Islands Day, last Friday the 30th, at the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Gold Medal was collected by Mamerto Cabrera Cabrera, CEO of Cicar, who stated that "for my mother, my siblings and for me, the granting of the Gold Medal fills us with pride, reminds us of our origins and points us to the path we must continue to travel in the future." Likewise, Mamerto Cabrera Cabrera has expressed his gratitude to the president of the autonomous government for his decision, as well as to the Governing Board of the Arrecife City Council, for promoting Cicar's candidacy.
"My father would be very proud of this high distinction -says Mamerto Cabrera-, but we do not forget that we share the merits with all our staff, because they have been, are and will always be the most solid pillar that sustains our company," he stressed.
The company's history begins in 1967, in Arrecife de Lanzarote, when it began its journey in the world of motoring. That year, Don Mamerto Cabrera Medina, a carpenter by profession, and his wife, Doña Nieves Cabrera, vacated the carpentry shop they owned in a small garage and created a rent a car business, with only five vehicles. After nearly 50 years, the Cabrera Medina Group retains its family structure and becomes, under the name Orvecame, official distributors for the Canary Islands of the Opel and Volvo brands, as well as Fiat and Alfa Romeo for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and Land Rover for the province of Gran Canaria, among others.
CICAR offers services in all the Canary Islands, and is present in all airports, ports, tourist areas and strategic points of the Canary Archipelago. It has about 8,000 rental vehicles, more than 80 points of sale for both rent a car and vehicle sales, and provides direct employment to more than 1,200 people. Its logo is a creation of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique.
Cabrera Medina is the result of the tenacious and enthusiastic work of an entire family and the group of people who make it up, who, together with their clients and collaborating companies, constitute the group's main asset. At present, it still preserves the original values of its founder: safety and customer satisfaction, kindness, closeness, simplicity and a desire to excel.
