Binter celebrates its 25th birthday by honoring the 26 employees who have worked at the airline since its origins. In an emotional ceremony, these professionals were recognized by the company and by the rest of their colleagues. The president of Binter, Pedro Agustín del Castillo, thanked during his speech for the work carried out in this quarter of a century and the work of the more than 1000 employees that make up the Binter System.

Del Castillo also highlighted the company's commitment to the Canary Islands, which "is what has driven us to make the connectivity of our Islands with Africa a reality." The president of the airline hopes that these connections will boost business between these areas and the Canary Islands, and that therefore "it will promote the Archipelago as a business platform towards the African continent, and consequently translate into job creation in our islands," he said.

As it could not be otherwise, the recognition was also extended to the crew, headed by Commander Ricardo Génova, who operated the first Binter flight on March 26, 1989. Génova, in his speech, highlighted some projects of the time that are not a reality today. "We must have done something well when 25 years later Binter is a regional airline of reference in Europe," he said. The former commander confessed that the plane he has most enjoyed flying is the Binter ATR.

Recreation of the first flight

The birthday celebration took off with the recreation of the first flight made by the airline, on the Tenerife - Gran Canaria route, on March 26, 1989, at 8:00 a.m. And where not a single detail was missing, the uniforms were also those of 25 years ago. The flight was attended by the crew that operated that inaugural flight a quarter of a century ago, in addition to the aforementioned commander Ricardo Génova, commander Alfonso García Bach and cabin crew member Katia Fernández Méndez traveled.

During the journey, the 65 passengers on board learned anecdotes and details of the first years of activity of the company and how aviation worked in the Canary Islands at those times. A cocktail awaited them upon arrival at Gran Canaria airport.

Binter passengers not only had the opportunity to read the press this Wednesday, as usual, but also the Canary Islands newspapers of that March 26, 1989; it was undoubtedly one of the of the highlights of the day. The airline also distributed its ambrosias among the passage, but this time it did so in a special pack of 5 chocolates that also had a prize; 25 inter-island trips for two people, among other surprises.

Street party

Binter also did not forget the customers who did not fly this Wednesday and took the celebration to the street. Specifically to two of the busiest streets in the Archipelago, Triana in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and La Carrera in La Laguna. A great birthday party with musical performances -in Gran Canaria by German López and in Tenerife with Terekitetap- percussion workshops for children, origami workshops to make airplanes.

For the occasion, a musical application was available so that the little ones from both islands practiced before performing a concert in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, that is, from Triana gave some notes that were replicated by the children of Tenerife.

First Tenerife-Dakar flight

Binter took advantage of its birthday to continue its expansion on the continent African and inaugurated a new route between Tenerife North and Dakar. The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Carlos Alonso, was in charge of cutting the ribbon together with the General Coordinator of Binter, Juan Ramsden. A delegation from Binter traveled on the flight to present the new route with the Canary Islands.
