The Parliament of the Canary Islands spent 211,704 euros on inter-island travel for its deputies in 2024, according to the count made with the data published by the regional Chamber of the journeys made by plane and boat, most of them to attend parliamentary sessions.
Of the total expenditure, 184,529 was for travel by plane and 27,174 euros by boat, a means preferred by nine of the 65 deputies who used inter-island transport in 2024.
On average, the 65 deputies to whom the Parliament paid for trips in 2024 spent 3,257 euros each throughout the past year.
The deputy Marcos Francisco Hernández Guillén, from Lanzarote, is the one who generated the most expense in his travels, 7,242 euros, of which only 90 euros by boat and the rest by plane.
Manuel Hernández Cerezo, from Fuerteventura, was the other deputy who spent over 7,000 euros on travel, 7,207 euros in total, practically all of it by plane.
Above 6,000 euros are María Isabel Saavedra Hierro (Fuerteventura), Juan Manuel García Casañas (El Hierro), Carlos Antonio Ester Sánchez (Gran Canaria) and Marcos Antonio Bergaz Villalba (Lanzarote).
Seven more deputies exceed 5,000 euros: Mario Cabrera González (Fuerteventura), Astrid María Pérez Batista (Lanzarote), Fernando Enseñat Bueno (Fuerteventura), Yoné Xarach Caraballo Medina (Lanzarote), David Jesús Toledo Niz (Lanzarote), Jacob Anis Qadri Hijazo (La Palma) and Nicasio Jesús Galván Sasia (Gran Canaria).
Of the 65 deputies to whom the Parliament paid for inter-island transport in 2024, nine spent more on boat trips than on plane trips.
These are Carlos Antonio Ester Sánchez (Gran Canaria), Vidina Espino Ramírez (Gran Canaria), Manuel Ramón Plasencia Barroso (La Gomera), Gustavo Adolfo Santana Martel (Gran Canaria), Miguel Ángel Pérez del Pino (Gran Canaria), Nayra Alemán Ojeda (Gran Canaria), Elena Máñez Rodríguez (Gran Canaria), Jesús Ramón Ramos Chinea (La Gomera) and David Morales Déniz (Gran Canaria).
April, November, October, July, September and June were the months of highest expenditure on travel in that order, ahead of December, May, February, March, January and August.
