The lava that has reached the sea on the island of La Palma has already created a "low island" more than half a kilometer wide, as explained by the volcanologist of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) Vicente Soler.
The researcher explained through the social networks of the CSIC that this "low island" will continue to grow as long as the contribution of lava continues, something that is not questioned at the moment since the activity of that leak is "continuous".
This platform created by the lava upon arrival at the sea, recalled the CSIC, "generates clouds of gases in contact with the water", which can affect health, which is why the authorities have recommended not approaching to witness the phenomenon.
"The continued activity of this powerful leak represents the most favorable situation for the lava flow not to continue invading new land" on the surface of the island.
And he concluded by detailing that "if another mouth opens" from which lava would also come out, it would tend to run "over the previous one" but "it would have to find its way again", which would be a worse scenario.
