The Government of the Canary Islands and the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), with the support of Green Offices, have presented in Lanzarote the traveling exhibition of the LIBERA Project, of SEO/BirdLife in alliance with Ecoembes, to eradicate the abandonment of waste in the natural environment and promote social awareness and sensitization about the impact of litter.

The opening ceremony was held on August 30 at the La Tegala Cultural Center, in the Haría City Council, where it was confirmed that the exhibition will tour various municipalities of the island until September 25.

The exhibition will feature eight didactic panels in which you can discover the solutions to litter, as well as QR links to awareness campaigns and useful information to expand knowledge in relation to this problem.

The collaborating entities have presented this exhibition at an event in which the general director of the Fight against Climate Change and Environment of the regional Executive, José Domingo Fernández, participated; the coordinator of European Funds of Community Funds, Carlos Días; the mayor of Haría, Evelia García; the councilor for the environment of the Haría City Council, Fernando Fontes Dorta; the technician of Green Offices of the Canary Islands at the Lanzarote headquarters, Laura Martín, and the head of Local and Autonomous Management of Ecoembes in the Canary Islands, Carlota Cruz.

“Through this act, the Government of the Canary Islands reaffirms its commitment to the LIBERA Project to continue promoting the participation of the Canaries in this type of campaigns of awareness and sensitization for natural environments without litter”, says the general director of the Fight against Climate Change and Environment of the regional Executive.

“We are delighted to receive this exhibition in Haría, further proof of the commitment of the city council and all the Harians to preserve their environment and to participate in an initiative such as the LIBERA Project”, said the mayor, Evelia García.

Elena Ramos Jiménez, head of the Social Area and the Territorial Delegation in the Canary Islands of SEO/BirdLife, pointed out that “the preservation of natural environments requires the greatest possible participation". "From the LIBERA Project we are committed to the contribution of all active agents in the cause, both public and private. And without a doubt, FECAM is a great ally in our objective of eradicating litter”, she added.

On the other hand, the head of Local and Autonomous Management of Ecoembes in the Canary Islands, Carlota Cruz, stated that “thanks to the collaboration of everyone we are making great progress in the fight against litter". "We are aware that there is still a long way to go, but the citizens of the Canary Islands are responding very positively to each call to action”, she pointed out.
