The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has brought forward the review of the alert levels to this Tuesday and has decided to raise Gran Canaria and La Palma to level 4, "given the unfavorable evolution of their epidemiological indicators." However, it specifies that the change will not be effective until next Saturday, when it will come into effect from 00:00 hours.

"As was advanced in the last report of the General Directorate of Public Health of January 12, the indicators of Gran Canaria were subject to continuous observation due to their unfavorable evolution in case it was necessary to advance the change of level. Therefore, once it has been confirmed that the care capacity in both Gran Canaria and La Palma is at very high risk, both islands must move to alert level 4", they point out from the Ministry.

This decision is adopted by the Ministry of Health, after the epidemiological report of the General Directorate of Public Health that determines the risks in which the epidemiological indicators for both islands are found. The Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, will inform the members of the Governing Council of the extraordinary decision next Thursday. That day, in addition, the data of the rest of the islands will be reviewed for the usual update of the alert levels.

In the case of Lanzarote, it is currently at level 3, while Tenerife was already at 4, and now Gran Canaria and La Palma will be added.
