A neighbor has contacted La Voz to demand the renovation of the bicycle parking located in front of the Arrecife City Council. Specifically, he asks that this street furniture be like the one being installed in other areas of the city.
"The image of progress collapses shamefully right in the heart of the administration: in the very main entrance of the Arrecife City Council," says the neighbor.
Thus, the citizen criticizes that "while high-cost and visually impactful projects are tendered and executed, the existing bicycle parking at the entrance door of this Town Hall is maintained in a state of absolute neglect and deterioration."
According to the reader, "the state of disrepair of this element, which should be the first sign of the municipal commitment to cyclists, is broken, unusable, and without the most basic maintenance since the very day of its installation. Currently, it does not fulfill its primary function: to allow the correct and safe parking of bicycles."
"The presence of this broken bicycle rack at the entrance of the municipal headquarters is not only a problem of furniture, but it becomes a palpable symbol of the disconnection between the political discourse of promoting sustainable mobility and the reality of municipal management," he continues.
Furthermore, in addition to the immediate repair or replacement of the bicycle parking, the citizen requests "the implementation of a plan for periodic review and maintenance for the entire sustainable mobility infrastructure of the municipality and a reconsideration of spending priorities, ensuring that maintenance and basic functionality are not subordinated to large-budget projects."
