A woman reports the torment she is experiencing in her rented home in Tías

The complainant explains that she discovered that the house is registered as a commercial property and, because of this, she pays almost five times more for the water bill.

A resident of Tías has contacted La Voz about the ordeal she has been suffering for seven months. After finding out last December, due to a major breakdown, that the house she rents is registered as a commercial property, her landlady is "making her life impossible". In addition, she has had to go to a psychologist because of the situation of unease that she and her two minor children are experiencing.

The affected neighbor asked the owner of the house to fix the breakdown but she refused to do so. During two years of rent, she has "always paid the 600 euros of rent". "What she wants is for me to pay, and at no time have I told her no, as long as she fixes the breakdown for me." The neighbor realized the type of registration when she went to Canal Gestión and they told her that the water bills corresponded to a commercial property.

When going to the Tías Town Hall to request a certificate of occupancy for the house, the affected neighbor discovered that it did not exist and it was not registered as a house in the Property Registry either. In addition, she asked the landlady to put the water and electricity services in her name, but she refused. She also did not have access to the water meters. Later she discovered that she was paying 2.90 euros per cubic meter of water, when in reality she should be paying the domestic rate, which is 0.60 euros.

In addition, the affected neighbor has received an eviction order and, apart from that, the landlady increased the rent price from January without notifying her. This has caused the tenant to accumulate a debt that until April reached 7,200 euros, which will increase depending on how long she stays in the house.

On the other hand, thanks to the insurance, the affected neighbor learned that "there was no expert report of the damages to the property, but only of the furniture," she explains. Therefore, they only paid for the sofa and the bed.

 

Without water and with provocations

After the affected neighbor became aware of the scam, the landlady deprived her of this service. "She has cut off the water, she has clogged the pipes so that the water does not go down the sink and I cannot put washing machines on," she complains. "All this has caused me emotional distress for which I have had to go to the psychologist," she laments. In addition, she denounces the "situation of anguish" that her children are experiencing.

The damages not only affect the pipes, but she also has dampness in the kitchen. "I cannot store food in the cabinet because it is completely damp," she explains. "I also have the house invaded by cockroaches, but not due to lack of hygiene, but due to the conditions of the house," she assures.

Likewise, the neighbor says that "these people live provoking and stand at the window of the house that faces the street to say that we are criminals," she comments. Although she has no evidence of this harassment, she has reported the situation but "the court dismissed it." However, the affected neighbor is currently in the process of filing a lawsuit for damages.
