UD Lanzarote lets victory slip away in the last five minutes (1-2)

UD Lanzarote was unable to open their points tally on the second day of the Third Division and their game was left without reward against Unión Viera. Miguel Gómez put the locals ahead at the start of the second half, with the team from Gran Canaria turning the result around in the final stretch of the match and when playing with one less player on the field.

The equality was maximum during the development of the first part, although it was UD Lanzarote who had a slight dominance in the first 45 minutes. A shot by Miguel Gómez from the edge of the area and a pass back from Kevin Castro for the arrival of Ayoze Pérez that went high, were the best approaches of the locals.

UD Lanzarote found the reward for their greater push in the first minutes of the second half. Ayoze Pérez won the back line on the left side, and his pass was finished off by Miguel Gómez at the far post into the net. A player who had the second in his boots minutes later with a cross shot that went next to the base of the post.

Unión Viera was left with one less player on the field in the 77th minute, with Jeremy Betancort being sent off with a red card. As a result of that action, the visiting team pressed in search of the equaliser, which arrived in the 86th minute. A corner kick by Alfredo touched Javi Morales' body and ended up sneaking inside the goal.

And in the 89th minute, Kilian brought down Kevin Mendoza when he was entering the area, with the referee pointing out the maximum penalty. It was Kevin Mendoza himself who took the penalty, Ruymán guessed the trajectory, and the rejection was again finished off by the Unión Viera player in the face of the Rojilla defence's passivity.

With the score of 1 to 2, the match came to an end at the Ciudad Deportiva, with UD Lanzarote suffering their second defeat of the season, leaving the Lanzarote team without points in their locker. Their next opponent will be UD San Fernando, a match that will be played on Sunday, November 1 at the Municipal de Maspalomas.
