UD Lanzarote Falls to Unión Puerto and Will Play for It on the Last Day

UD Lanzarote returned empty-handed from their visit on Sunday morning to the Municipal de Los Pozos, falling 2-1 to Unión Puerto, a result that further tightens the fight to avoid the dangerous zone of the standings. The Rojillos were unable to take advantage of the countless opportunities they had, watching as the Majorera team turned the score around after Ayoze Pérez's initial goal.

The match began with absolute dominance by UD Lanzarote, with the players led by Josu Uribe having possession of the ball and making many approaches to the area defended by Rodri. The first warning from the Rojillos was a cross shot from Ayoze Pérez that went wide.

The Lanzarote team looked comfortable on the field, with continuous approaches to the opponent's goal. The reward for the good work being done came in the 21st minute, with Ayoze Pérez finishing off a quick counterattack, after a play that he himself started with a ball steal.

Unión Puerto found the equalizer after the first half hour of the match. A shot from Samuel surprised Alejandro and resulted in the tie. The equalizer allowed the team led by Miguel Santana to stretch the lines, although the first 45 minutes ended with a tie on the scoreboard.

UD Lanzarote continued to try in the first minutes of the second half. In the 50th minute, Rosmen barely missed finishing a cross from one of the sides, and shortly after it was Adrián Machín who had a double opportunity, failing in front of goal. Adrián Machín had entered in the first half due to an injury to Dani González.

The match opened up as the minutes passed, and it became a back-and-forth affair. In the 71st minute, a fall by Héctor inside the area was penalized as a penalty. Liñares was in charge of executing the penalty, and Alejandro was about to stop the shot that made it 2-1 for the locals.

UD Lanzarote went all out in the final minutes in search of the equalizing goal, not being successful in the final meters. There was even a claim for a penalty for a handball by a Unión Puerto defender inside the area, after a foul executed by Miguel Gómez from the edge of the area.

With the score of 2-1, the match ended at the Municipal de Los Pozos, a result that further tightens the fight to avoid the bottom positions in the standings. UD Lanzarote remains out of the danger zone by winning the goal average against Unión Puerto, and next Sunday they will receive the visit of UD Las Palmas “C”.
