UD. Lanzarote let slip a golden opportunity to get into the top positions in the standings by falling defeated (1-0) at the Santo Domingo de Alcorcón field, in a match in which the rojillos deserved at least a draw. A penalty missed by Gustavo and the inability to defeat a rival that played with ten men from the 73rd minute condemned the team to leave Madrid empty-handed.
UD Lanzarote could not bring anything positive from their visit to Alcorcón and ended up losing a match in which they even wasted a penalty, which would have meant a draw. The Madrid team maximized the goal scored by Miguel Ángel on the edge of halftime.
It was a balanced match at all times, where dangerous chances were not very abundant throughout the 90 minutes.
The local team showed off their host status and as the minutes went by, they took control of the match, although their attacks were lost in the vicinity of the area.
However, Alcorcón began to create much more danger in the final phase of the first half, in which Melgar crashed a ball into the post of Iván Gómez's goal. This occasion was the prelude to the goal of the Madrid team, who took the lead on the scoreboard when a minute passed over the regulation time after a chain failure of the Lanzarote defense.
With the 1-0, the first 45 minutes came to an end, in which Alcorcón had managed to inflict one of the so-called psychological goals.
The second half began with a lot of rhythm and with chances for both teams, although the clearest ones fell on the side of the rojillos, who managed to display their best football and took control of the match. In this sense, the best chance for UD Lanzarote came in the 21st minute when the referee signaled a clear penalty for a foul on Jaba inside the area. Gustavo, a specialist in this art, assumed the responsibility of launching it but sent the ball outside of Raúl's goal
Later, in the 73rd minute, Alcorcón was left with one less player due to the expulsion of Mario with a direct red card, which encouraged Adolfo Pérez's players to go up in search of a draw, although this finally did not arrive.
With this defeat, UD. Lanzarote loses a position in the standings, and is in eleventh place with 19 points, six from promotion and four from the relegation promotion.
