The Canary Islands Federation of Latin Sail Dinghies held an Extraordinary General Assembly on Friday afternoon, in which different points related to this vernacular sport of the archipelago were debated. The assembly members and representatives of the island federations and delegations of Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma attended, and all the points on the agenda were approved.
The postponement of the XXX Canary Islands Latin Sail Dinghy Championship was one of the issues discussed at the assembly held via videoconference, and the decision to postpone the event, which was scheduled for December in the bay of Playa Blanca, in Yaiza, was ratified. According to them, a better date will be sought when the health conditions caused by covid-19 allow it.
The federative entity also approved the updating of its statutes, which once validated by the General Directorate of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, will be published on the federation's newly released website. In addition, the Regatta Guide was ratified, a document that aims to standardize the development of the competition in each of the islands.
One of the points that provoked the most debate on Friday afternoon was the technical regulations, with the assembly members expressing their points of view on this issue. Finally, the technical regulations were approved, pending resolution of some interpretation issues that will be debated in the next assembly.
The Canary Islands Federation of Latin Sail Dinghies states that it is still working to regain normality in a season that is being "very complicated" due to the health situation, which has paralyzed a large part of the activity. However, in Gran Canaria the island competition will resume over this weekend and in La Palma it is expected that the dinghies will begin to sail at the end of this month.
