This Sunday, Lanzarote is preparing to kick off a new season of 8.55-meter dinghies. The day will start at 11:00 in the morning with a training regatta at the Insular Center of Nautical Sports in Marina Colón, thanks to the collaboration of the Sports Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. Although it will not count towards the official classification, this regatta will allow the teams to fine-tune their boats and evaluate their performance under demanding conditions.

This Sunday's regatta will mark the return of the traditional 8'55-meter dinghy competition in Lanzarote, an event that is only held on this island and attracts nautical enthusiasts and traditions in Lanzarote. With the departure scheduled from the Insular Center of Nautical Sports in Marina Colón, participants will have the opportunity to adjust their strategies and test their boats before the start of the official season.

Five teams have confirmed their participation in this edition of the training regatta, which will be led by experienced skippers who will contribute their skills and knowledge of the sea. The Villa de Teguise will be commanded by Santiago González, while the Puerto del Arrecife will alternate between skippers Manri Rodríguez and David Martín. The Volcán de la Corona will be skippered by Pedro de León "Fula" and Emilio Tavío, while the Maramajo will have Andrea Stinga and Ana Hernández at the helm. Finally, the Graciosero will be governed by Virginia Morales and Aythami Quintana.

The weather forecast predicts a tough day for the participants, with north winds that could reach gusts of up to 26 knots and waves that would exceed 3 meters. These conditions will test both the skill of the skippers and the resistance of the dinghies, which face the difficulties of the Lanzarote sea.

The training regatta will not be part of the regular competition. Its main objective is to test the boats, adjust technical details and observe how the teams perform at sea, without the pressure of the league points. The test can be followed live through the Facebook channel of the Insular Federation of Latin Sailing Dinghies of Lanzarote.
