Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved this Saturday its second consecutive victory, third of the season, at the Pabellón Polideportivo Exterior of La Albericia in Santander on their visit to Uneatlantico Pereda (20-24) in a match corresponding to the seventeenth matchday of the women's División de Honor Oro.
They thus continue the positive streak of the tiñoseras who, although they remain last, are really starting to tighten things up at the bottom of the table. With seven points, they are just one behind Carballal, who fell at home to Zuazo (29-24) and two behind Grupo USA Handbol Mislata and Schar Colores Zaragoza who faced each other and have had their match postponed. For their part, Pereda continues to occupy eighth position with thirteen points.
The locals struck first. Aida Brull opened the scoring seventeen seconds into the match, but the Tiñoseras quickly reacted, overcoming the initial disadvantage with consecutive goals from Beatriz Masseu and Brenda Torres. At the midpoint of the first half, Jesús Casanova's team accelerated to reach halftime with an eight-goal lead (7-15). Uneatlantico Pereda returned from the break with the aim of turning the game around. Emma Fanjul scored another early goal for the locals, but Puerto del Carmen responded through Oriana Palumbo and Lucía Betancort. Jesús Casanova led his team into the final ten minutes with an eight-goal advantage. Pereda tried until the end, managing to reduce the difference to four goals, but destiny was already written in Tiñosera ink.
Beatriz Masseu once again became the top scorer of the match and of the Lanzarote team with nine goals. In the Santander squad, Aida Brull stood out with eight goals.
For the Tiñoso coach, Jesús Casanova, it has been "a good game, especially in defense in the first half, defense plus counter-attack. The goalkeepers also contributed a lot. And, based on counter-attacks, we were able to achieve that large difference we had on the scoreboard. The second half was a bit more sluggish, they controlled our counter-attacks, we couldn't do them as easily as in the first half. With a pressing defense, they bogged down our attack a little. In decisive moments they managed to get closer, but we got serious in defense again and played, both counter-attacks and attack, with a little more fluidity and managed to score goals and the victory, which was what it was all about. Two more points. We are now one point behind the teams ahead of us. Now we have two complicated little games, first Zuazo at home and second in Mislata, which is already a direct rival," concluded the coach of Puerto del Carmen.
El Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will return to competition next Saturday, February 21, at 8:00 PM, at the Pabellón Municipal de Titerroy in Arrecife, with the visit of Balonmano Zuazo Femenino, a team that this week defeated Carballal (29-24) and is third in the standings with twenty-five points and a record of twelve wins, the last four consecutive, one draw, and four losses. In the first-round match played on November 1st of last year, Zuazo defeated the tiñoseras (30-24).
