Canarias has won the bronze medal in the Spanish Championship of the Cruiser Class - Loterías con el Deporte with the youngest crew in the regatta.
The Antigua Craiova team (RCNA) finished first in their group in the first phase of the competition and did not drop below the top 2 in the semifinals, finally securing the third step of the podium, reports the Royal Canary Islands Sailing Federation.
The regatta, organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the RCN of Calpe (Alicante), had to cancel the last day and finish on Saturday due to the arrival of a DANA in the Valencian Community.
The young "conejero" dream team that has won the bronze can boast of precocity - they are, by far, the youngest in the regatta - and of their track record.
They are between 19 and 23 years old and collectively have a notable sporting curriculum. Despite this, Alberto Morales highlights that the "conejera" crew was aware of the level of their competitors upon arriving in Calpe.
“We didn't come with very high expectations, seeing the level of the crews from the other autonomous communities.”
However, in the first phase they were group champions and in the semifinals they did not drop below the top 2, and the team realized that “this new generation is coming on strong with chances for everything.”
Alberto states that they are satisfied with the bronze medal, although it could have been more. “We are happy with the result, but with a bittersweet taste because we saw that we were capable of winning.”
Along with Alberto (23 years old), the team includes his brother Miguel Ángel (20), Alejandro Martín Corujo (19), Alonso Pérez Fernandez (19), and Gabriel Gallego Rodríguez (22). Together, in pairs or separately, they can all boast of their sporting curriculum.
In 2025, Alberto Morales, Miguel Morales, and Gabriel Gallego were proclaimed Spanish Match Race champions; also in 2024, although on this occasion in the youth category and with the Morales brothers and Alejandro Martín Corujo as part of the crew.
The Morales brothers have national and international titles in Wazsp, Alonso Pérez has just completed the 2,600 miles of the solo Mini Atlantique regatta at 19 years old, and a few years earlier, Alejandro and Miguel Ángel won the European 420 championship and a bronze in the youth world championship of this same class.
The Asturian Taxus Medio Ambiente was proclaimed champion of Spain of Cruceros, while the Murcian Saleroso 2.0, by Luis Carlos Muñoz, took the silver medal. The present edition brought together 18 teams from 13 autonomous federations and was resolved with 21 races disputed over two days. The participating teams earned their place in the Spanish Championship after competing in autonomous eliminatories.
