Sunday marked the golden close of the first edition of the Puerto Calero Match Race Trophy, which has been successfully held in the waters of Lanzarote for the last four days. The always admired climate of the Canary Islands offered an impressive day of radiant sun and good wind, which completed an ideal picture together with the splendid regatta field in the waters of Guacimeta.
3-0 was the final score that gave the victory to the Danish Jesper Radich against the Spanish Páez. For his part, the third classified was Manu Weiller from Palma de Mallorca, who beat the Canary Islander José Mª Ponce in the development of his heats, five in total. These results demonstrate the dominance of the members of the Spanish Challenge team.
At 2 p.m. the trophies were awarded, the work of the local artist Paco Curbelo, who made the pieces inspired by the wind and the logo of class 80 (the boats used by the teams throughout the competition). Jesper Radich, skipper of the winning team, wanted to address a few words to the audience to thank them for the attention received, congratulate the organization and assure them that they would love to return next year.
