Orientación Marítima, one of the historic clubs on the island of Lanzarote, will not have a senior team next season. This has been decided by its Board of Directors and on Thursday afternoon the decision was notified to the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas. From now on, the La Destila team will focus all its efforts on youth development.

The directors have held many meetings in recent weeks in search of a solution. The first team's relegation had disrupted the plans and it was being studied whether it would be convenient to participate in the Regional Preferente of Las Palmas. After much deliberation, the managers of Orientación Marítima have decided to submit their resignation to participate in the Regional Preferente and withdraw their first team from the competition.

In the letter presented to the Insular Football Delegation of Lanzarote, Marítima explains that "the main reason that has led the Board of Directors to make this decision is the current economic situation that the club is going through". It assures that they have been "trying to maintain the entity for several years, taking into account the non-existent economic collaboration from private entities and the decrease in aid from public entities". A circumstance that has led Marítima to have at this moment an "unsustainable economic situation".

Looking ahead to next season, Orientación Marítima will focus all its efforts on youth development, trying to "promote and boost the base of the club, trying to improve the sporting aspect and introduce and combine an educational, social and cultural project".

The question that arises at this time is to know which team will occupy the place of Orientación Marítima in the Regional Preferente. In principle, it was thought that the position would be occupied by CD Tahíche, but this circumstance would only occur if Marítima had renounced the category and played next season in the Primera Regional de Lanzarote. Given the dissolution of the first team and not occupying a place in any category, everything suggests that it will be Unión Puerto who will be promoted to the category, as they were the team that went furthest in the play-off for promotion. The Interinsular Federation of Las Palmas will announce the final composition of the category in the coming days.
