The Lanzarote team left for León, via Madrid, full of hope of achieving their third consecutive victory, but also with absences. Yaiza García, Rosario de León and Noelia Lago could not travel with the expedition. The first for personal reasons, the second for a knee injury and the third for studies, had to stay on the island, so Jesús García had nine players looking for the victory.
The match began with the worst news for the Lanzarote team. After 37 seconds, Tatiana Tenorio withdrew from the court due to a knee injury, being inspected in the first instance by the doctor of the peninsular team, pending a thorough examination when she arrives on the island. Shortly after, it was Magaly Vilches who gave the scare with a sprained wrist, although she continued on the court making a superhuman effort.
Far from all these misfortunes that the Lanzarote team was having, the match was not going badly for their interests, competing head-to-head with the León team, who were surprised in the first quarter, with a partial victory of 17 to 20 for Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence”, managing to come back in the second, taking advantage of the few rotations of the islanders, who had practically run out of troops, to go to halftime 39 to 34.
It seemed that the Canary Islanders were going to start to falter due to fatigue, but on the contrary, they grew throughout the third quarter, where they saw that things were still going well for them, gaining confidence and in the inside game, forcing the León team to have to look for the three-point shot, where they were having good results. They reached the last quarter with the score of 54 to 53 and the hopes intact for the visitors.
In the last quarter, equality continued to be the tonic of the match with slight advantages for one team or another. Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” fought until the end, being able to take the match, but the León team was not going to make the visitor's victory easy either and they pushed to turn around a score that they had slightly against them, finally managing to win by 68 to 67 and leave the fighting Lanzarote players without a prize.
Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” undertook, after the defeat, the trip back home. First three hours by road to Madrid and then a trip to Lanzarote to rest and start thinking about the intensity of the next four weeks, where they will play eight games. The first ones, at home, on Wednesday, February 23 against Barakaldo and on the 26th against Melilla. Then will come Cortegada (1/3), Almería (6/3), Ibaizabal (11/3), Coruña (13/3), Unicaja (19/3) and Alhaurín (20/3).
