Engines are starting to roar on the roads of Lanzarote. Eight of the thirty-six teams registered for the 25th Rally Isla de Los Volcanes – Ciudad de Arrecife participated in the official test day promoted by Club Deportivo Evesport on the Famara section (Teguise). World-class drivers Mads Ostberg and Diego Domínguez took advantage of the session to discover the characteristics of the Lanzarote stages, which they will face for the first time this weekend.

The Paraguayan driver, accompanied by Rogelio Peñate from Gran Canaria, accumulated a significant number of kilometers at the controls of the Citroën C3 Rally2 (red) that Sports&You moved from Portugal. The Norwegian with the other unit (white) and Patrik Barth to his right, did not drive for so long. Together with the mechanics of the Proracing Competición team, he focused the morning on refining the settings of his French-brand unit, pushing the scheduled time to extract the maximum conclusions with which to work in the coming hours with the technicians.

On the part of the Canarians, both Juan Carlos Quintana-Yeray Mujica and Yeray Lemes-Aitor Cambeiro took the controls of their respective Rally2 vehicles. The Lanzarote natives, premiering on gravel with the Hyundai i20 N Rally2 from Terra Training Motorsport, were among the most active. Alejandro Rodríguez-Miguel Ángel Rodríguez (Ford Fiesta Rally3), Esteban Feo-Jesús Alonso (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII), Francisco Álamo-Rita Rodríguez (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII) and Luzmi Santana-Ariday Bonilla (Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI N3) also attended the pre-competition test session.

Recognitions and delivery of documentation

The events on Thursday, August 31, continued during the afternoon with the celebration of the optional recognitions of the timed sections that were announced last night. The teams were able to visit the different specials that make up the route of the 25th Rally Isla de Los Volcanes from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Likewise, at the Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa (RTIV23 offices), the mandatory delivery of documentation and GPS system is being carried out, also optional and until 7:00 p.m.

This Friday morning the recognitions of the sections and the verifications of the cars continue in the Parque Islas Canarias of Arrecife. From 1:30 p.m. the Shakedown or training section will begin in Puerto del Carmen, with four kilometers of route. And at 2:15 p.m. the qualifying stage for priority drivers will be held.

The rally really begins at 6:15 p.m. with the start of the Arrecife Super-Special, in the Fairgrounds area next to the Assistance Park. The activity then moves to the Parque Islas Canarias for the election of the starting order and the presentation of the drivers, to close a long day of rally, although it will only be an appetizer to face the remaining 12 timed sections on Saturday.
