Unbeatable atmosphere that was experienced on Saturday morning in Playa Dorada, with the celebration of the twenty-second edition of the International La Bocaina Lanzarote - Fuerteventura Crossing that brought together almost a hundred swimmers from different parts of the country, the Canary archipelago and the world, coinciding in Yaiza different nationalities that have found in this competition a different opportunity to enjoy sports and tourism in both islands thanks to its extraordinary weather conditions.
Proof of this can be given by the newly proclaimed winners of this event who managed to reach the finish line in more than enviable times. This was achieved by Liz Price, who won the gold in the women's category, after crossing the finish line with a time of 05:03:48. The CN Vulcania swimmer, Aitor Hernández, also crowned himself with a great record, completing the course in 04:23:44.
And the day seemed to accompany all the athletes from the first hour with excellent weather to be able to make those 15 kilometers with which to unite Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, at least it was like that until well into the competition. It was approximately four miles to reach the Isla de Lobos when the conditions would test that almost hundred athletes with a small storm from the east, which stirred the force of the marine current. Harsh conditions that occurred in a small period of time because calm soon returned and the last strokes were already given in good weather. In this edition there were 16 swimmers who could not complete the challenge but will surely return next year eager to achieve the goal.
All this did not detract from a competition that was only temporarily affected by that small storm that did not last long enough to prevent a new success of the XXII International La Bocaina Lanzarote - Fuerteventura Crossing, with swimmers who even managed to arrive half an hour before the time planned by the organization.
The women's podium was completed by Azahara Martínez, from CN Vulcania, after reaching the Majorera finish line in 05:13:59; followed by the swimmer from Reactive Physiotherapy, Diana de la Rosa (05:19:21). In the men's category Stpehane Guisard (04:24:21) won the silver; closing the third drawer Jordi Corominas, from Club Natació Farners (04:24:23), who in addition to the third place overall, achieved the best time of the youngest.
While the double Olympic medalist, David López Purcell (04:30:58) managed to be the first in the longest category and the sixth place in the general classification.
Also highlight the swimmers who completed the test in the challenge mode and who achieved the goal of uniting the two easternmost islands of the Canary Islands, leaving an unforgettable memory in their retinas. After the arrival of all the brave swimmers to the coast of Corralejos, the awards ceremony began, putting the finishing touch to another edition of this legendary sporting event.
