The Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted this Friday the presentation of the second edition of the San Bartolomé Cup, a Benjamin category tournament that will be held from June 13 to 15 and will feature a total of 24 teams.

The presentation was attended by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort; the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón; the Councilor for Sports of San Bartolomé, Alexis Hernández; and Juani Vega, member of the organizing team of San Bartolomé CF.

“I didn't hesitate for a second, when this project was presented to me more than a year ago, that it was a tournament that would last over time. Because it is not only about sports, but also about coexistence and experiences of our children with first-class academies,” said the president, Oswaldo Betancort, who congratulated the organization “for making this great event possible one more year.”

The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, highlighted the coordination between the Island Sports Service, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers; and Tourism Lanzarote to make this possible. “We were all aware of the importance of continuing to promote this project which, without a doubt, has improved exponentially compared to the previous edition. This is a reflection of the commitment and importance of this tournament,” he added.

The Councilor for Sports of San Bartolomé, Alexis Hernández, pointed out that the tournament will also feature “workshops on mental health”. “We have expanded beyond football, and also during breaks players and fans will be able to play Teqball, a sport that is booming and that more and more people are practicing every day,” he asserted.

Juani Vega, member of the organization of the event, excused the absence of the president Juan Elvira for work reasons and valued “the effort of everyone to make it possible”. “We have shown that we were capable of hosting a first-class tournament, and I am convinced that both players and fans will enjoy a weekend full of football,” he added.
