Lanzarote International Regatta 2025: a new cycle begins in Olympic sailing

The event brings together international sailors from this Monday until February 23, who find in Lanzarote the unbeatable place for their training for Los Angeles 2028

Today marks the beginning of the Lanzarote International Regatta 2025, an event that, together with the recently held iQFOiL Games, marks the beginning of the Olympic cycle towards Los Angeles 2028. From today until February 23, Marina Rubicón will be the epicenter of international sailing, hosting international athletes, who find the island the ideal place for their training.

The regatta will feature events of different Olympic classes and other light sailing modalities, offering a unique spectacle in the Atlantic. Specifically, today begins the first stage with the 49er, whose winners will be announced on February 18.

With crews from Greece, Holland, the United States and Holland, the Spaniards of the pre-Olympic team Martín and Jaime Wizner (Galicia), Conra d Konitzer (Balearic Islands) and Antonio Torrado (Valencian Community) and Pol Marsans (Catalonia) and Pablo Llorens (Galicia) will face each other. Next, it will be the turn of the Mixed 470, ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and Snipe. The winners of this second stage will take the podium on Sunday, February 23.

 

Lanzarote, the place chosen by the Olympians


Lanzarote, thanks to its unbeatable climatic conditions and the first-class nautical infrastructures of Marina Rubicón, has made it a key destination for the preparation of the best sailors in the world. The Lanzarote International Regatta not only promotes the sport of sailing, but also positions the island as a global benchmark in the organization of high-level sporting events.

“The objective is to consolidate Lanzarote as a center of excellence for world sailing. This regatta is a unique opportunity for the best athletes to measure their strength at the beginning of the new Olympic cycle,” said the CEO of Marina Rubicón, Rafael Lasso. 

 

The numbers speak for themselves

In 2024, the economic impact of the Lanzarote International Regatta was 37.4 million euros. According to the report, prepared by the Auditax consultancy, the contracting of services to local companies amounted to around 5.8 million euros, benefiting sectors such as nautical, hospitality, transport and food, among others. In this way, more than 100 jobs were generated, benefiting the local business fabric. Likewise, the advertising impact of the event is valued at 6.4 million euros -with coverage in national and international media and wide dissemination on social networks-, obtaining an indisputable visibility of the destination.

“The figures are overwhelming and highlight the enormous impact that these sporting events have on the destination, contributing to the economic growth of the island and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the local population,” says Rafael Lasso.

With days full of emotion and competitiveness, the Lanzarote International Regatta 2025 promises to be an unforgettable event for lovers of sports and sailing.

Organized by Marina Rubicón, it is sponsored by Turismo Lanzarote through its sports tourism product “Lanzarote Sports Destination”, the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Insular Sports Service, the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Yaiza City Council; with the collaboration, among others, of the Canary Sailing Federation, DinghyCoach and the island federations of Latin Sailing.
