Jesús Casanova Acuña, a coach with an endless resume in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, and national handball, returns to the Tías bench with the enthusiasm of someone starting their sports career: "I started playing handball at the age of ten at the institute, and from there, I became part of the San José Obrero Youth team. Then I was in Torrelavega for several seasons up to the First Division. As a coach, I have practically coached all the teams on the island, except for Playa Blanca. I have coached in Tahiche, San José, on several occasions, Puerto del Carmen, Zonzamas, Tinajo, and I don't know if I'm missing any. I achieved a promotion phase to the División de Honor, that is, Iberdrola, and I was a coach in the Women's División de Honor for several years, what is now called Iberdrola. Also several years in the Men's First Division where I have reached a promotion phase to Asobal. I have been a champion of Spain with San José Juvenil. Surely I will be missing something, several years in the highest competitions and so on."
Regarding his new destination, already well known, Puerto del Carmen, Casanova considers that "I think they have made a team, or until last year, it was a solid, fast team, I saw them play in several games and I liked it. Maybe it didn't have too much size, but I think that with what it had, it was possible to make a good team that, well, in principle it seems that it will be difficult to maintain this year and let's see what we can do. About the club, "no one can argue that, undoubtedly, it is the best youth academy in the Canary Islands in women's handball right now. There are the results, without going any further, in the last of its Spanish championships it lost in a penalty shootout. There are several players with options to play in this category if they maintain the dynamics they are currently following."
Finally, the new technical director of Puerto del Carmen, who arrives to replace Juanmi Pérez, explains that "we will have to wait a bit to see how the team evolves because right now we have many losses, I am counting a minimum of six losses in relation to last year's team and, among them, are the team's two top scorers, who, adding their goals, mean ten goals per game. I think that, with the rest of the players we have, we are going to have to make an extra effort to be able to remedy that small deficit that we are going to have in terms of goals. It is time to work very hard on the defensive issue. The expectations are none other than, in principle, to save the category and we will see during the competition if we can aspire to something more," concludes the new coach of CB Puerto del Carmen, Jesús Casanova.
