Long day of the Orvecame-Isla de Lanzarote rally in which the Lanzarote team of Toñín Suárez-Jorge Cedrés achieved their first victory with the Porsche 911 GT3, who took the lead in the race from this Saturday in the third section and did not relinquish the lead until crossing the finish line this afternoon in Arrecife. They convincingly won five of the eight timed sections (in addition to TC8 Plus), with a final difference of 13.7 seconds over the next classified. An unbeatable result that makes them again island champions of Lanzarote. See here the images of the awards ceremony.
A second place on the podium was awarded to another Lanzarote team, that of Oliver Rodríguez, co-piloted by David Rivero from Gran Canaria with another Porsche 911 GT3, a position they achieved from TC4 and adding their only scratch in TC2, after their first season with the German sports car. In turn, they were more than 25 seconds ahead of the members of the third step, Aníbal Machín-Borja de León, who had a very consistent rally with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.
And the dominance of the Lanzarote teams did not stop there, because Raúl Hernández, co-piloted by Rodrigo Sanjuán, the "hero" team of the Lanzarote night, finished fourth, leading the general classification until TC2 with their Peugeot 208 Rally4. In the process, they achieved a resounding triumph in the first edition of the DISA-Orvecame Rally Cup and finished third in the Canary Islands Championship.
Fifth overall and second in this cup was another team from the island of volcanoes, Javier Cañada-Alejandro Rodríguez with the Opel Corsa Rally4, with a very good level also coming from the second place obtained last year.
To find the first non-Lanzarote team, you have to go to 11th place overall, where the Gran Canaria drivers Nelson Climent and Tino Vega appear with the Peugeot 208, fourth in the Sport&You Cup, after Alfredo Guerra-Gabriel Espino, third in this section.
Complicated end to the rally for the organization of the CD. Evesport, due to the important race incidents that occurred this afternoon in the last sections that were missing to complete the general classification and the podium places of the "Orvecame-Isla de Lanzarote", which forced the neutralization of TC 6 and 7. The development of the race has been plagued with road exits, rollovers and damaged vehicles since the morning, when TC3 also had to be neutralized. Already in the penultimate section, the incident of Toñi Ponce and Pedro Domínguez occurred with the Hyundai, where the driver was the most affected as he felt very sore. Given this situation, the medical team opted for his immobilization before taking him out of the car and thus preserving him from possible injuries, before his subsequent transfer to the hospital, where his ailments are being evaluated.
Later, Julio Martínez-Pedro Viera retired in the liaison section to TC8, when the Porsche 911 ran out of clutch. With the withdrawal of the two aspirants to the BP Las Palmas Championship, Julio and Pedro renew the title for the second consecutive year.
